Frequently Asked Questions
âť“ How do I collect a urine sample from my pet?
We’ll provide guidance and collection materials. For dogs, we can use a special collection device during walks. For cats, we may provide special non-absorbent litter. If home collection isn’t possible, we can obtain a sample during the visit using gentle techniques.
âť“ How fresh does the urine sample need to be?
Ideally, urine should be tested within 1-2 hours of collection for most accurate results. If immediate testing isn’t possible, samples can be refrigerated for up to 6 hours. We prefer to test fresh samples during our visit when possible.
âť“ What does urine testing cost?
Basic urinalysis including consultation is £60. If additional laboratory testing is needed (culture, specialized tests), fees typically range from £40-£100. See our pricing page for details. We’ll discuss costs before proceeding with any additional tests.
âť“ When should my pet have urine testing?
Annual urine testing is recommended for adult pets as part of wellness screening. Senior pets (7+ years) should be tested every 6 months. Pets showing signs like increased thirst, frequent urination, straining, or blood in urine need immediate testing.
❓ What if my pet won’t urinate during the visit?
We have several options including providing collection materials for you to use when your pet is ready, using ultrasound-guided cystocentesis (direct bladder sampling) if necessary, or scheduling a follow-up. We’ll work with you to find the best solution.
